Seattle 6th Grade Takes 3rd Place in 2015 FBU National Championship
NAPLES, FL (Dec. 20, 2015) –
In the first consolation game of the FBU National Championship, 6th Grade Seattle took on the 6th graders from Indiana. Both teams fought tough battles to make their way to Naples and this game was their chance to put their skills on display one last time.
Indiana accepted the kick off to begin the game but had a turnover on downs and Seattle took over on their own 39 yard line. Indiana put up a strong defensive set and caused Seattle to turn it over on downs on their own 46 yard line. After a back and forth battle and turnover on downs, Seattle linebacker Devon Molia intercepted the pass by Indiana QB Gehrig Slunaker and brought it back to the Indiana 46-yard line.
At the start of the second quarter, Seattle running back Marcus McCraney took it to the house from the 39-yard line and added 2 more points on the conversion to put Seattle on the board first, up 8-0.
Indiana put on a little drive of their own when running back Devin Newton ran for 23 yards to get in to Seattle’s territory, however Seattle’s defense did not allow another first down. They went in to the half up 8.
Seattle received the kickoff to start the second half and Marcus McCraney took it to the house for 62-yards to put Seattle up 16-0. Indiana tried to counter as Slunaker hooked up with Colin Price for a 20-yard reception, but Indiana was able to put a stop to that midway through the 3rd quarter.
Indiana began to make a game of it when Indiana cornerback Ashden Gentry made an interception and ran it back to the 8-yard line at the end of the 3rd. With the ball at the 8 yard line and 4th and goal, Indiana quarterback Slunaker hooked up with tight end Gunnar Hartwig making the score 16-6.
Indiana attempted the onside kick but did not convert and Seattle began their drive on the Indiana 49-yard line. Indiana's defense held steady and forced another turnover on downs. Indiana drove down the field and Slunaker hooked up with Colin Price for another touchdown to make the score 16-12. However Seattle had a quick response when fullback Metitilani Noaese rumbled for 50 yards to put Seattle on top 22-12.
Indiana had an answer thought when Slunaker hooked up with wide receiver Devin Newton on the ensuring play for a 50 yard touchdown and Gunnar Hartwig added the 2-point conversion with a nice one-handed catch to bring Indiana within two points, 22-20.
Indiana tried to catch Seattle with an onside kick, however Caleb Presley of Seattle had other plans when he picked it up for a 50 yard scramble to the 10-yard line. Seattle was able to run out the clock and take the game 22-20 and earn a 3rd place finish for the FBU National Championship.
