Maryland 7th Grade Takes 3rd From Kansas City



NAPLES, FL (Dec. 20, 2015)-- The second consolation game of the FBU National Championship, was held between 7th Grade Maryland and 7th grade Kansas City.  Both teams used this game as their opportunity to leave everyone out on the field.  Maryland used their speed and defense to take over the game in the second half to win 22-16.

Kansas City received the kick to begin the game but cornerback Zion Larkins intercepted quarterback Arland Bruce IV on the 6th play of the game. 

In the second quarter, Maryland running backs Reginald Proctor and Zion Larkins led the attack but the Kansas City defense held steady and Maryland was forced to punt.  Kansas City had some trickery up their sleeves with a flea-flicker and followed that up with a touchdown by quarterback Arlan Bruce IV to go up 8-0 over Maryland.  Maryland was on the attack but Kansas City defensive back Drew Cassida intercepted a pass before the end of the first half.

In the third quarter Maryland running back Zion Larkins put the team on his back for a few long runs and full back Joseph Bearns III punched it in and tacked on the two point conversion to tie the game at 8-8.

Kansas City added some more trickery when on 4th and 1 quarterback Harrison Braudis got up under center and handed it off to Arland Bruce IV who took it 46 yards for the score.  The added a two point conversion and Kansas City took the lead at 16-8 with eight minutes remaining in the 4th quarter.

Maryland received the kick and ran a long drive that ended in a Reginald Proctor rushing touchdown from six yards out and he added on a two point conversion to tie up the game with three minutes left in the game.

Kansas City attempted the deep pass on the ensuring drive, but Colby McDonald had some other plans and intercepted it and ran it back to the 1-yard line to set up the TD run by Reginald Proctor to put Maryland up for good at 22-16.  Zion Larkins had his second interception of the day on the next drive to seal the deal, and Maryland took 3rd place in the 7th grade bracket.
